Beavers 60th
Well well Beaver, alias Sandra Carson tried to keep her 100 th birthday secret by pretending it was her 60th. actual studies of fossils found in Glengolly proved she really is 60. Because she is so well loved the Beavers of 2nd Thurso held a surprise party for her. Complete with cake and flowers. The Beavers did not eat the flowers but devoured the cake in 60 secs. Beaver even won pass the parcel, maybe it was "rigged"?????
Good on you old un, looking forward to next 60 years now eh Beaver??
2nd Thurso Burns Supper was super
Hot stuff that haggis, even so no one got burnt celebrating Burns. Buffalo may have got his hands dirty messing around in the "body" with his address but no injuries. That said a few sore tums with an overdose of the beast. Once the legs were cut off many portions of Haggis was devoured. As this was the lesser spotter variety it is slightly bigger than its cousin, mini -striped Haggis. Calum did a great job piping in the haggis and hardly any was splashed on the walls! Cheese, oatcakes and millionairres shortbread finished the meal. The latter was given in the hope that some Beavers would turn out to be loaded£££££££. Of course they are as we are all priceless!
Dancing into the wee hours (well to 8pm) finished the supper. All were so excited that even the leaders were over joyed, why, Beaver almost forgot the words to the Promise!
2nd Thurso Beavers St Anne's Church visit
As part of their Faith Activity Badge 2nd Thurso Beavers explored the meaning of a local church to their Scout Hut. Very local it is too as St Anne's R.C is all but two minutes walk, (or at Beaver speed either two seconds or two hours!). The explorations ( maybe another badge here?) were both physical and spiritual, evident by the questions asked, such as: "who is that on that cross over there"? Lucky for us then that we had Mrs Jane Coll an expert on St Anne's Church and as a bonus knows everything there is to know about the spiritual side from the view of this particular Church and what its meaning is, both within the closer community and beyond.
Last 2011 meeting of Beavers
Coinciding with the end of the year came Christmas and thus Santa duly arrived at 2nd Thurso Beavers tonight. We tried to book the Easter bunny but tickets not on sale yet! So on with the show and it was pass the parcel but no unwrapping. Instead each Beaver who was left holding the parcel when the music stopped was given a card. Clever eh? Different to gambling with cards though as in Beavers everyone is a winner! Music was deafening by a volume of a mouse whispering. A few games with songs sung accoustic to save energy and then it was pressie feely time. Surprisingly not many got broekn, that's the presents not the Beavers. Finishing with a melt free snowball fight made from tissue paper everyone threw themselves into the action. Even the leaders were covered, thankfully not freezing. And it only took what seemed like 15 hours to regain control!!! Night night Beavers and a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone.
