Dunnet Bay Cubs visited Castletown Army Cadets for the evening to find out what the Cadets do. First the Cadets demonstrated Drill in the cadet hut and then the Cubs had a turn. After a drink and a taste of some rations packs, they all marched down to Harland where the Cubs were shown how to camouflage themselves and then sent to hide. Some were very good and had to be called to reveal where they were. |

When 1st Dunnet Bay Beavers re-started after the summer break, they had a new Beaver Scout Leader, Audrey Halle. The first thing she had to do was invest three new Beavers – triplets! Their picture even made it on to the national Scout website www.scouts.org.uk |
 | |
This was the last meeting of Beavers for the term and the very last meeting for the Beaver Leader.
After investing her final Beaver Scout, Linda Morrison was presented with a glass beaver to remind her of the 11 years she has spent as a leader with 1st Dunnet Bay Beavers. |

Thanks to the staff at Thurso Swimming Pool for organising a lane for them to do it in and the public who were there for putting up with the inconvenience. |

Caithness Amateur Radio Society (CARS) helped Dunnet Bay Cubs with part of their Communicator badge tonight. They set up a temporary radio station in the hall and arranged for members of CARS to be available to talk to the Cubs over the airwaves. All the Cubs took a turn on air, speaking to radio stations from Dunnet Head, John O’Groats and Wick but some spoke to radio stations as far away as Edinburgh and Northumberland. The Cubs had a go at learning their name in Morse Code using a morse key and morse tutor (an electronic device for teaching, sending and receiving of morse code). They also listened to a recording of Denny Morrison speaking to the International Space Station in February this Year. |
Village improvements - 07/04/2006 :
1st Dunnet Bay :
Cubs
 | |
1st Dunnet Bay Cubs picked a fine cold, snowy day to plant some trees in Castletown. They were continuing a project arranged by Castletown and District Community Council to improve the appearance of the village and picked a day during their Easter holidays. With the help of Mary Legg of Highland Council Ranger Service, they dug holes in very stony ground, drove in stakes for the trees, planted them and put up guards. Once finished in the village, they planted some Willow trees in the middle cemetery at Olrig. |
 | |
As well as a trip to the climbing wall, this term 1st Dunnet Bay Cubs put their DIY and artistic talents to good use. Those who hadn't made them before made coat racks for the changing rooms of the gym where they meet. While they were doing that, the others started making a giant size snakes and ladders board. It's so big that you use Beaver Scouts for counters! You don't really. The player stands in the square instead of using a counter. |
