Abseiling at Forss - 24/08/2006 : 1st Thurso : Scouts
Thanks to Andrew Manson Welding making new ones, some stakes have been left in-situ for abseiling at the cliffs at Forss. 1st Thurso Scouts were first to make use of them with the help of Jim Sudd:
"We went abseiling on the cliffs at Forss. First time it was a bit scary at the top, very scary going down and great feeling when you get to the bottom. When asked how he was enjoying it, Jamie said "Aaaaah!", but he was only half way down his first time."
Thurso to Castletown - 06/05/2006 : 1st Thurso : Scouts
Six 1st Thurso Scouts walked from their Scout Hall in Thurso to Castletown following the coast. It was a perfect day for walking in May - warm, but not too warm, and overcast. It took exactly 3 hours 24 minutes (as predicted by one of the leaders).
Climbing Wall visit - 02/03/2006 : 1st Thurso : Scouts
1st Thurso Scouts visited the Climbing Wall in Wick Scout Hall. For most of them, it was their first visit since they were in Cubs. Since Scouts have to work a little bit harder, they didn't just climb but also had to learn how to belay. Not only does this extend their skills and save the leader effort, it also builds trust between the Scouts!
