2nd Thurso Scout Group - Burns Supper - 24/02/2007 :

 | |
Following on a long tradition, 2nd Thurso's Burns Supper was held on Saturday 24th February. As it was considerably later than usual it was suggested that we advertise it as the "First Burns Supper for 2008"!
As well as enjoying the traditional Haggis, Neeps n' tatties with a wee dram or wine, there was a good helping of scottish trifle.
Edgar Fisher once again presented a glowing immortal memory address that reached all the ages present.
In what they hope was their "last" stands, John Crofts & Heather Carberry respectively, gave the toast to the lassies & the reply.
Mitchell McLean toasted the Queen, Eilidh Stronach said grace and Robin Foster addressed & savaged the Haggis.
The company was then entertained by our very own Pipe band and various other entertainers from within our sections.
For once the chairman's (Brian Johnston) schedule was correct & the company was dismissed by 11pm.

Burns Celebration - 13/02/2007 :
2nd Thurso :
Beavers
 | |
2nd Thurso Beavers held a late "Burns Supper" with guest piper Kenny playing as Alex carried the freshly caught Haggis around the table. Most Beavers devoured the haggis in seconds with only a few crying out for chips! The meeting also saw the Beavers make Valentine cards for thier loved ones proving the truth that Burns and love do go together as well as "tatties and neeps"! |
Christmas party 2006 - 19/12/2006 :

A snow free "snowball" fight involving 21 Beaver Scouts, ( and leaders of course), sheets and sheets of paper towel concluded the 2006 Christmas Party of Second Thurso Beavers on 19th Decemeber. Popular games played included musical statues with less focus on staying still than being in the right position. Also the old favourites such as "pass the parcel" and a new version of this called "Left and Right". Santa arrived and of course handing out pressies to all eager Beavers. Santa was keen to go and feed his reindeer but stayed to pick the winning ticket of a quiz raising money for the Indian orphanage that the Beavers support. The winning ticket belonged to Margaret Fulton who will receive £10 and a sairi which we are sure she will look good modelling!!!! |
Troop xmas treat - 15/12/2006 :

Instead of an Xmas party the troop & explorers went ten pin bowling. The highest Scout score was 153 by James Spencer! Despite various attempts to remould the bumpers, we are hopeful they'll let us back again next year!

Beaver fundraising - 05/12/2006 :

A superb sum of £150 was raised on Tuesday 5th December by the Second Thurso Beavers holding a "Beaver Drive". The money is planned to be donated to support a boys orhanage in India which the Beavers have supported over several years. beaver Leader Sandra Carson is due to vist the orhanage early in 2007 to officially hand over the money. The 2beaver Drive" took place in the Second Thurso Scout hut and involved all family members of a cross section of Beavers. Simialr to a "beetle-drive" but with a tail and less legs there was a grand prize for the person who scored the most points in drawing a beaver. Also at this time a new trophy was launched. Named the "Second Thurso Beaver Fulton Cup" it will be awarded to the best improved Beaver Lodge in memory of Ian Fulton who was a past Group Scout Leader of Second Thurso and who passed away earlier in 2006. |

A very scary night of passing heads, eating worms and looking for eyeballs took place at the Second Thurso Scout Hut on Tuesday 31st Oct 2006 when 20 Beaver Scouts dressed for their party. Instead of "ducking" for apples, forks were used to "dive" into the skins at a great height. Not only did this challenge the Beavers accuracy but it kept their faces smudge free from facepaint dribble! Whilst eating apples the Beavers "enjoyed" a true ghost story about the phantom fish of Thurso River. The night finished with the Beavers dressed as turtles, monsters, witches, space cowboys and vampires, ( to name but a few) dancing the conga and doing some very strange actions( and that was just the leaders!) |
Thurso Police Station Visit - 03/10/2006 :
2nd Thurso :
Beavers
 | |
An arresting site was seen in Thurso Police Station on 3rd October 2006 when 2nd Thurso Beavers invaded the premises. All "enjoyed" being locked up in a cell, finger printed, sitting in poloice van and photographed. One leader was especially lucky to be handcuffed. A great time was had by all and a big thank you to Thurso Police. |

Fundraising for Indian Childrens home - 01/02/2006 :
2nd Thurso :
Beavers
 |
2nd Thurso Beavers raised £400 for a Children's Home in India by being smart in collecting coins inside smartie tubes. As well as this, a "Beaver Drive" was held. This is like a Beetle Drive but with more fun, if less legs!! Sandra Carson, Beaver Leader flew out to donate the money and was helped with her luggage by a generous allowance from "United Emirates". This allowance was not for Sandra's personal baggage but for a football strip donated for the children at the Home. |
